Human Resource Responsibilities

A football coach at the professional level has the responsibility of hiring, firing, or trading athletes. With help from other members and stakeholders, a football coach has to draw up the contracts for each player and negotiate, to get the players to agree to the terms of the deal. In some cases, the coach might also work as an agent by helping the players to get the best deals with other teams.

Management Duties

Many management duties fall under the responsibilities of a football coach. For example, the coach has to manage the trainers, to ensure that they offer all the available training resources to all players and work hard to get them to their best physical form.

The coach also manages the team, deciding which players get to participate in particular games, as well as the positions which they play in. Some of the other management duties include overseeing facility development and maintenance, drawing up game schedules, and hiring service staff, among many others.

Marketing and Promotions

There are cases when the football coach acts as the spokesperson and face of the team. This is seen when the coach conducts press conferences and interviews with the media. Some coaches work as marketers or fundraisers in a bid to bring in endorsements and sponsors. A coach may also work as a sports information director or public relations personnel, coordinating media for the team and releasing team updates and scores.
